Labor Day weekend is widely considered the unofficial end to the summer time season. People return to work from vacation, children go off to school and nightfall starts getting earlier each day. For those who love autumn, this is a sign of the season to come. If you have an unwavering love for summer and are sad to see it go, there is still one more weekend to enjoy it with some of these activities to help you send summer off in style.
Fire Up The Grill
With the exception of Memorial Day and Independence Day, Labor Day Weekend might be one of the biggest grilling holidays of the year. After this week’s heat wave, preparing a meal without heating up your kitchen or home will be a welcomed change of pace. Men’s Journal recently posted a list of the best barbeque accessories you will need to make your Labor Day a memorable one. Some of the items featured include a variety pack of thick sauces and marinades that bring home the flavor of Kansas City to the east coast. There are also gadgets such as the “rib ring” that will allow to make juicy racks of ribs without taking up space on your grill surface.
Check DIY Projects Off Your To-Do List
Summer is often associated with rest and relaxation; however your home never takes a vacation. Between the constant hot weather and increased wear and tear from summer parties, your home may need to some TLC before fall sets in. With a three-day weekend upon us, now is the perfect time for some DIY projects that won’t take up your entire weekend. Simple Most offers some advice such as updating your outdoor furniture or grill. By purchasing these items now, you will be ready for next season as soon as the mercury starts to rise. Another project you can tackle this weekend is painting. Whether it be a fence that needs a fresh coat or that accent wall you’ve been putting off, pick up some paint from the hardware store and cross this task off of your to-do list.
Take a Last Minute Getaway
If you haven’t planned a trip for Labor Day yet, don’t despair. You still have plenty of options. Whether you’re craving a quiet day on a pink-sand beach or a hypnotizing zip down a mountain, you’re only a flight, car, or train ride away from an excellent Labor Day weekend getaway. Fox offers a handful of destinations that don’t require weeks or months to plan the trip. For example, take a drive out to Newport, Rhode Island for hike on the cliff walk or beach day. Maybe you haven’t enjoyed as much seafood as you had hoped for this summer, if that’s the case Bar Harbor, Maine is the place to go. If you’re looking for a destination that’s closer to home you should consider Montauk, New York. New York’s most eastern point isn’t just about the beach, although you can blissfully spend the day building sandcastles at nearby Hither Hills State Park.
Score a Good Deal
Labor Day Weekend is also synonymous with shopping as many retailers will entice consumers with discounts on seasonal items and more. Huffington Post has created a handy guide that includes discount codes and sales for furniture and home décor from merchants such as Joss & Main, Houzz and World Market. Maybe you’re in the market for a new mattress for yourself or your guest room. There are also promotions that ensure you are getting your best night’s sleep.
