Small Town Living in Redding

“I think Mark Twain said it best when he saw Redding for the first time in 1908,” comments local expert Deborah Durkee, an agent in our Ridgefield brokerage and former resident of Redding. “He said, ‘I didn’t imagine it could be this beautiful.’”

The statement undoubtedly rings true. In fact, the town has been described as the “Vermont of Connecticut” due to its serene, rural and beautiful surroundings. In the past, Redding has been ranked as the No. 1 Small Town in the state by Connecticut Magazine based on its low crime rate, top school system and overall attractive lifestyle. Founded in 1767, this community bordering Bethel, Danbury, Easton, Newtown, Ridgefield, Wilton and Weston prides itself on its exceptional quality of life.

With a strong connection to the town’s country landscape and natural resources, leaders and residents are committed to permanently preserving its wide range of open space, history and recreational offerings. Redding has over 60 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing, as well as ideal fishing opportunities.

“It is a town unlike any other in Fairfield County,” adds Durkee, who does much of her business here, and still considers Redding home. “Located in a rural and bucolic setting that is still within an hour’s drive of NYC, this is a town that nurtures the mind and body with its beautiful parks for hiking, rich historic sites and homes, as well as its handful of educational/working farms.” She goes on to also mention the community’s continuous appeal to many famous and artistic people. “Over the years, artists like Mark Twain, Charles Ives and Edward Steichen, to name a few, have called Redding home.”

The area additionally contains a community center that provides an abundance of programming through the Parks and Recreation Department, and is home to several senior centers and sport facilities, including a private tennis and golf club. Popular state parks and the Highstead Arboretum, a 36-acre woodland sanctuary with walking trails and an on-site museum, also reside in this charming New England town.

In fact, the public can view some of these fabulous residences during a special collective open house tour of six listings in the area on Wednesday, September 21st 2016, from 1-4 PM. The event, which is organized by Durkee, will feature a variety of superb country homes that are not to be missed. See the flyer below for further details.

“If someone is looking for a retreat from the hustle, bustle and traffic of everyday life, yet still wants access to all services and conveniences, then Redding is the place to be,” says Durkee. “It is a jewel in the crown of Fairfield County, and I am thrilled to share its beauty with all interested buyers and future residents.”
