Beach, Boating & Privacy. Westchester County

Incredibly rare to market; 12.8 acres of waterfront property on Long Island Sound in Westchester County, NY just 25 minutes from New York City.  The nearly 13 acre parcel is surrounded by water on three sides - Mamaroneck Harbor, Otter Creek & Long Island Sound with 300 hundred feet of pristine sandy beach.  Its centerpiece is an 18,000 square-foot mansion with a 6,000 square-foot waterfront ballroom, designed in 1885 by Stanford White of McKim, Mead and White.  This legendary architectural firm is responsible for such iconic works as the Boston Public Library, the East and West Wings of the White House and more.  Several additional buildings complement the property including a boat house, original gatehouse and turreted carriage house, dating back to the late 1800s when this waterfront estate was home to New York financier Charles W. Osborn.

After you’ve explored the endless possibilities to re-purpose the original Stanford White Mansion it’s time to take full advantage of the property’s resort like amenities. Every sailor will appreciate the impeccably engineered breakwater marina that can accommodate a 90' yacht. The swimmer will be eager to enjoy one of two swimming pools or the endless waters of Long Island Sound.  Tennis anyone?  Then play on only the best Har Tru clay-surface tennis courts, all with the ever-present backdrop of gardens, meadows and panoramic Long Island Sound views.

Although the property is not landmarked, there is plenty of historic appeal to enjoy.  Per an article that appeared in "Suburban Today" on January 5, 1986, written by Merri Rosenberg, "One hundred years ago, architect Stanford White walked a 12 acre parcel of land in Mamaroneck overlooking Long Island Sound, pondering his first residential commission. His firm McKim, Mead and White had accepted a job from the Wall Street financier Charles J. Osborn and his wife, Miriam, to design their home. The finished product was five buildings in a Norman-French country chateau style that eventually became the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club.  The Osborns were a wealthy and socially prominent couple who partied lavishly from New York to Newport. Their Mamaroneck house which they bought in 1883 was at the foot of South Barry Avenue. It was named Tahoma, and is listed in the Westchester County Historical Society's register of historic homes.

The opportunities presented with this unique offering are truly endless.  Come and explore.
