Proud Supporters of My Sisters’ Place

Our company has yet another reason to be proud, this time for its continued support of Westchester County-based non-profit My Sisters’ Place, and its mission to end domestic violence and human trafficking. During the organization’s annual spring benefit entitled “Still Behind Closed Doors,” dedicated team members were presented with the “Voices of Change” award in recognition of our efforts. The event was held on April 13 at the Ritz Carlton in White Plains N.Y., and raised over $600,000 for the cause, surpassing its original goal by more than $100,000.

Guest speaker Sara Mahoney was also honored at the event, and delivered a speech highlighting the incredible work of My Sisters’ Place, and its humble roots. Mahoney noted the lack of resources and local support available for women and children in abusive relationships in the 1970s, acknowledging the fact that Westchester County was the first area to develop a domestic violence shelter during this time. Although there is still a lot of work to do, organizations like My Sisters’ Place effectively institute strong support systems and play a role in changing attitudes—the stepping stones that pave the way for a brighter future.

Founded in 1976, My Sisters’ Place supports victims of violence and trafficking by providing dependable advocacy, shelter, legal services and educational opportunities, as well as an overall guide to prevention. Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty has been a proud supporter since 2014, working to engage thousands of people in the cause through community-based events including “A Taste of Rye” and “A Taste of Larchmont,” local restaurant crawls that have raised nearly $100,000.

Our company continued its support of the worthy cause during the event itself, where team members donated a special “Taste of Westchester” gift basket comprised of items and gift certificates contributed by local businesses and restaurants for the silent auction. The basket alone raised $2,600 for the event. Other auction highlights included passes to shows and dinners in New York and Westchester, a Caribbean cruise, and signed New York Giants jerseys along with a “training day” with players, several of which attended the evening affair.

The Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty committee who headed our company’s involvement with the gala included Rye brokerage team members Pati Holmes, Liz Bradley, Susan McDonnell and Linda Darer.
