William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Lists Historic Home Designed by Renowned Norfolk Architect Alfredo Taylor

Lakeville, Conn. – September 26, 2016 – William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that the firm has listed a historic Tudor home built by renowned local architect Alfredo Taylor, the designer behind over 30 buildings in Norfolk, Conn. The residence, which was constructed in 1903, making it one of the first stately vacation homes in the area, is listed with Lakeville agents Mimi Harson and John Borden, and offered at $2,850,000.

Displaying a wide range of distinct styles, Norfolk homes designed by Alfredo Taylor were completed over a span of four decades prior to WWII. He was commissioned to build 165 Litchfield Road, better known as “Moss Hill,” by his mother-in-law after she inherited a minor NYC real estate empire. The residence was one of many future estates Taylor would design as vacation retreats for wealthy New Yorkers in the area.

The seven-bedroom, six and a half-bath residence was inspired by medieval England and Taylor’s love of Italian architecture. Rising three stories with tall gables and bands of windows, the 7,405 square-foot home enjoys views to the north and west over the property’s ten acres of rolling, landscaped lawns and perennial gardens. In addition to an original carriage house, there is also a greenhouse with an attached garage and storage barn included on the grounds.

Recently updated while staying true to its original details and character, the main home features five fireplaces, a kitchen complete with top-notch appliances, a wet bar and butler’s pantry, a library, living room, music room, formal dining room, two conservatories and more. Standout features include crown moldings, hardwood and marble floors, paneled mahogany doors, original French hardware and a staircase lit by a double-height Palladian window.

“This is a lovely home with direct roots to the town’s historic architectural past,” said Harson. “Its well-maintained features that stay true to Taylor’s distinct designs combined with the residence’s recent renovations truly offer residents the best of both worlds.”

“Experience the beautiful village of Norfolk in one of its original trademark residences,” said Borden. “Built by the very man who created so many of the community’s stunning neighborhood homes, this sophisticated estate perfectly exemplifies life in the small Connecticut town. Its short distance from local cultural arts and theatre attractions, as well as reasonable two-hour commute to New York City, only add to the property’s countless positive attributes.”
