Rowayton, Conn. – November 16, 2016–– William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that the firm’s Rowayton brokerage will be hosting an artist reception as part of the “Sundays at Sotheby’s” series, a monthly program in which the office welcomes new local art to display in its office. The reception is typically held on the first Sunday of each month. Local artist William McCarthy will introduce his work on Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 4-6 PM.
William McCarthy works from his home studio in Connecticut to create landscape paintings focusing on subtle variations of light and atmosphere. Comprised from memory, imagination and thumbnail sketches, McCarthy’s work is completed in layers, using thinned down oil color to build on existing layers using glazing techniques before the final coats of varnish are applied. He predominantly works on wood board, paper and canvas, priming their surfaces with a red base and quick charcoal sketch before adding paint.
“Light has come to play an important part in my paintings,” said McCarthy. “When I look back upon my work, I feel it speaks about spiritual places—places that contain a quiet inner light and radiate an ethereal whisper. Places we see every day, but may not always notice. I am honored to be sharing my artistic experience at the Rowayton Art Series, and encourage you all to stop by.”
During the upcoming November 20th reception, which is open to the public, the Rowayton office will showcase a display of McCarthy’s paintings. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will also be served in a casual setting with opportunities to talk with McCarthy and discuss his work.
“As an art consultant, I have worked with William for the past eight years and have featured his works, many of them for sale, in several homes I have styled and enhanced for market preparation,” said Darien agent Dawn Beaver, who is spearheading the November brokerage artist reception. “His art has such soothing qualities. From modern to traditional, William’s imaginative landscapes are versatile, and fit in perfectly with the area, providing me with a wealth of choices when it comes to properly decorating a residence on the market.”
