William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Agent George Harvey Participates in MMRF 5k Walk/Run to Benefit Cancer Research

New Canaan agent to serve as team captain for annual fundraiser event

New Canaan, Conn.April 7, 2015William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty recently announced that agent George Harvey of the firm’s New Canaan brokerage will be participating in the MMRF Team for Cures: 5k Walk/Run, which will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015 in New Canaan, Conn. The annual event raises awareness and funds for research for multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, with all efforts benefitting the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF). Harvey will serve as a team captain, as well as run in the 5k race to support the cause.

The MMRF Team for Cures program was established in 2001, and has raised more than $21 million to support the MMRF, a non-profit organization established in 1998. In just ten years, the MMRF has successfully introduced six new myeloma drugs to market, utilizing nearly 90% of their total budget to assist research and related programming. Over $250 million has been raised since the group’s inception, making MMRF the world’s no. 1 private funder of research for the disease. In addition to this accomplishment, MMRF is the recipient of Charity Navigator’s coveted 4-star rating for 11 consecutive years, the highest designation to honor fiscal responsibility and efficiency.

The annual 5k Walk/Run is a Tri-State area event, with an expected attendance of over 2,500 participants ranging from patients to patient family members and friends, members of the myeloma community and more. Teams and individuals involved encourage and welcome donations, all of which will directly help to reach their fundraising goals and support the MMRF in its work.

“I am thrilled to be participating in such a worthy community program,” said Harvey. “The MMRF contributes a tremendous amount of research to help fight multiple myeloma, spreading awareness and saving countless lives along the way. I am humbled to be just a small part of these efforts, and can’t wait to lead my team to fundraising success.”
