Upcoming Tour of Norwalk’s Modern Architecture Features a Home that Blends Outdoor and Indoor Spaces

Norwalk, Conn. – (September 4, 2019) – William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that a mid-century modern home in Norwalk, Conn., listed by the firm’s Darien brokerage, will be featured in an upcoming tour of modern homes. 9 Outer Road is offered at $1,400,000 and is represented by Darien agents Nancy, Phil and Molly Crosland.

The Mad Men Modern tour is the ninth annual Living History Tour conducted by the Norwalk Preservation Trust, and will take place on Sunday, September 22.

Attendees of the tour will have the opportunity to travel by bus to Norwalk’s significant modern buildings, learning along the way about the architectural movement that launched a new aesthetic as well as the innovative minds that went against the grain to create the spark. The tour will be led by Tod Bryant, president of the trust and an architectural historian.

Among the stops on the tour is 9 Outer Road, by Edgar Tafel, an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright. Tafel built the home in Village Creek with clapboard and stone exterior, soaring windows and hand-crafted wood ceilings, a combination that, in characteristically organic architecture fashion, blends the home into the surrounding natural setting. In addition to seeing the home up close, guests on the tour will have the pleasure of seeing Tafel’s original drawings of the home.

“This is a one-of-a-kind home that deserves to be seen up close,” says listing agent Nancy Crosland. “It’s a perfect example of how modern architecture can promote a sense of harmony between a man-made structure and the natural world. If you’re a fan of the modern style, this is the event for you.”

Other notable homes that will be visited along the tour include the Arthur DeSalvo Jr. House and the Eli and Dori Levy House.

Tickets for the tour are $60 until Sept. 10 and $70 after that date. To purchase, visit norwalkpreservation.org. For information on sponsorship opportunities, contact Bryant at tod@norwalkpreservation.org or at 203-246-4743.
