Joan Toepfer Trust Contributes $200,000 to Westchester Organization Supporting Victims of Domestic Violence, as Real Estate Firm Separately Surpasses $200,000 in Additional Donations
Rye, N.Y. (November 20, 2019) — Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that the trust of the late Rye-based sales professional Joan Toepfer will donate $200,000 to the Westchester County nonprofit My Sisters’ Place. Toepfer’s close friend, Rye agent Alix Prince, is handling the funds from the trust and making the contribution to the organization.
At the same time, and separately, Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty as a company has just passed the $200,000 mark in raising additional funds for My Sisters’ Place. Since first partnering with the organization in 2014, Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty has helped contribute over $213,000 through its annual fundraising event, “A Taste of Rye.”
All money goes directly to My Sisters’ Place in support of its efforts to end domestic violence by helping victims while focusing on community education and prevention. The organization also combats human trafficking throughout Westchester County, and offers advocacy, shelter and legal services to those in need.
“The work My Sisters’ Place does to support victims of domestic violence with no place to go is critical in our community. Since we deal with homes and housing, it’s an especially important cause to all of us at Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty,” said Alix Prince. “It’s my honor to handle the trust fund money on behalf of my dear friend Joan, who was always such a passionate supporter of My Sisters’ Place.”
The firm was first introduced to My Sisters’ Place through Rye agent Susan McDonnell, who has served as the company’s primary liaison with the nonprofit over the years. McDonnell also enlisted the New York Giants to co-sponsor a series of fundraising events since 2014.
The first of these was “A Taste of Rye” in September 2014, a restaurant crawl that has become an annual fall tradition. Participants “sip, snack and stroll” their way through special tastings at several Rye restaurants, and bid at silent auction on items donated from local Rye merchants. At the most recent “A Taste of Rye” in September 2019, Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty raised over $29,000 for My Sisters’ Place.
