Mamaroneck, N.Y. (November 16, 2018) — Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty announced today the sale of the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., listed with Arlene Gibbs of the firm’s Larchmont brokerage. The waterside Hamptons-style resort, which offers the rare distinction of being located just 25 minutes outside of New York City, was last offered for sale at $10 million.
According to Gibbs, the sale will allow for the club’s continued enjoyment by the community.
“I was honored to represent the wonderful Rosenshein family in this important transaction and help to secure the buyers, who will now begin the club’s next chapter and create a new vision for this waterfront jewel on the Long Island Sound,” said Gibbs. “It’s a beach lover’s paradise in a setting like no other, right outside New York City.”
The 12.8-acre peninsula offers Long Island and Sound views, 300 feet of private sandy beach, lush gardens and meadows, nine Har-Tru clay-surface tennis courts, and swimming and wading pools. The club has thrived as a resort destination with races and regattas, children’s day camp with activities ranging from swimming and field sports to kayaking and paddle boarding, tennis tournaments and leagues, and fine dining with panoramic views.
The property’s centerpiece is an 18,000 square-foot mansion with a 6,000 square-foot waterfront ballroom, designed in 1885 by Stanford White of McKim, Mead and White—the architectural firm responsible for such iconic works as the Boston Public Library, the East and West Wings of the White House and more. Several additional buildings complement the property including the beach cabanas, boat house, and original gatehouse and turreted carriage house, dating back to the late 1800s when the waterfront estate was home to New York financier Charles W. Osborn.
The sale comes on the heels of another major real estate transaction in the area, with the highest waterfront sale of Larchmont and Mamaroneck since 2006 closing last month. Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty also handled the sale of that property at 203 Hommocks Road.
