Historic Building Once Home to America’s Oldest Pocket Knife Manufacturer For Sale with William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty

Salisbury, Conn. – (April 18, 2018) – William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that the firm has listed a mixed use property that is the former home of Holley Pocket Knives, the oldest pocket knife manufacturer in America. The Salisbury home is listed for $1,285,000 and is represented by Litchfield Hills agents Ira Goldspiel and Steve Pener.

Founded in Lakeville in 1844, Holley Pocket Knives sells customized and personalized pocket knives in a variety of styles and models. According to the company they were the first pocket knife manufacturer founded in the nation, and have adapted their business model to compete in a modern competitive marketplace. Holley Pocket Knives’ humble beginnings can be traced to the brick building at 8 Holley Street.

Located at the entrance to Lakeville’s Town Grove, a park on Lake Wononscopomuc, the main building, originally built in 1866, is currently used as an office, residential living space and a restaurant. The first floor was most recently home to an architecture firm and features a large open work area, white washed beams and windows on all sides. The second floor is currently leased as an office and is divided into smaller private work spaces. On the third floor there is a three-bedroom, one-bath apartment featuring exposed beams and views of the village of Lakeville.

The first floor incorporates approximately 1,000 square feet of work space and also features a small kitchenette, a half bathroom and 800 square feet of loft space above. Linking the two buildings is a finished lower level, which has been used as a locally renowned restaurant.

“What we have here is an incredible property that is steeped in not just Connecticut history, but American history as well,” said Goldspiel. “This stunning brick building has the potential to serve many purposes and I am thrilled that it can remain an integral part of the Lakeville community. I am honored to represent this historic listing.”
