We Bought the Farm” is a half-hour reality TV show that aims to make dreams of experiencing the peacefulness of life on a luxury farm homestead come true. A wide variety of properties are featured throughout the series, ranging from hundreds of sprawling acres to quaint properties that offer the charming lifestyles associated with farms in some of the most affordable and stunning locations across the nation. This spring marks the first season of the HGTV show.

We Want to Be Connecticut Yankees” is the title of the April 16th episode featuring our company, which focuses on homeowners Claire, a dietitian, and Steve’s journey to find a more sustainable living environment. While being able to grow their own food is a definite plus, Steve also wishes to find an address that’s closer to his daughter so he can spend more time with her, yet remain within a convenient commuting distance from work. Carefully considering these requests, Madison agent Heather Clinton shows the couple four of our company’s listings during the filming of the show, ultimately leading them to the purchase of their dream farm home.

One of the four visited homes is located in Lyme, Conn. at 318 Grassy Hill Road, and listed with Old Lyme agent Byron Lazine. The impressive residence boasts expansive acreage for equestrian possibilities, in addition to a six-bay carriage barn and tack room. 18 Cemetery Road, a 12-acre property in the picturesque town of Colchester, Conn., also encompasses the appealing characteristics of a New England farm. This home, which is listed with Essex agent team Jennifer and Jane Associates, overlooks a private pond and towering pines. Clinton continues the tour with her own listing at 52 Tower Hill Road in Killingworth, Conn., which she co-represents with fellow Madison agent Janet Mashia. The serene gentleman’s farm contains a remodeled, antique post and beam cape-style main house, as well as a two-story, four-stall barn—perfect for the avid horseback rider. The property additionally resides within close proximity to the scenic Hammonasset Beach and nearby State Forest trails. Last but not least, Claire and Steve stopped by 256 Cedar Swamp Road, also known as “The Old Shailer Farmhouse,” in Deep River, Conn., and listed with Essex agent Rick Weiner. This final property includes a masterfully renovated cape-style residence sited on over two acres of pristinely kept grounds surrounded by fruit trees, Shailer Pond and hundreds of acres of protected state forest land with both hiking and riding trails.
