It is a day for commemorating our independence and our history, but it is also a day for spending time with loved ones. The end of the day, or course, is reserved for the fireworks. Finding not only the most magnificent display in your area, but also the best spot for viewing them, can take a bit of research. Rye, NY Playland will be open for rides, games and treats during the day, and guests can look forward to the choreographed fireworks at night, beginning at 9:15 pm on Thursday (the 4th). If you miss this chance, you will be able to see the fireworks every Wednesday and Friday at 9:15 pm through August 31st. Parking will be $10 on the holiday.
The town of Katonah, NY is celebrating throughout the day for the 4th will all types of activities. The Independence Day fair will take place from 11:00 am–4:00 pm at the John Jay Homestead and Rotary Club of Bedford-Armonk. Admission to the grounds is free, and the food, house tours and some special activities are available by purchase. At 8:00 pm the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts will be hosting an exciting jazz concert with music by Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn stories about Harlem’s golden age of jazz, with fireworks, of course, to follow! Mamaroneck, NY Fire Department has already began in the Fourth festivities; its 66th Carnival commenced June 28th and will go through Saturday July 6th (starting at 7:00 pm Mamaroneck Ave. S. & E. Boston Post Road). You can expect treats, games and child friendly activities. The biggest blast to see will be the Firemen’s Fireworks Spectacular show on Harbor Island Park which will begin on the 4th at dark!
