This Fourth of July weekend, our Rowayton brokerage is hosting another artist reception as part of the “Sundays at Sotheby’s” series, a monthly program in which the
office welcomes new local art to display in its office. The reception is typically held on the first Sunday of each month. Local artist Alissa Morabito will introduce her work on Sunday, July 3, 2016 from 4-6 PM.
Surrounded by Southern California’s beautiful shores from an early age, local artist Alissa Morabito was deeply influenced by the beach in many of her works, which typically display a laid back, coastal style. After spending her childhood in this sunny, West Coast state, Morabito eventually moved to the small New England town of Washington Depot, Conn. It was here that while unpacking, she came across a package of liquid gold leaf that exploded after opening. For weeks, Morabito’s hands were covered in a brilliant gold, from then on inspiring her future paintings, drawings and scrawls to be gilded. Throughout the years, her works maintained this trademark style, while also expanding to encompass the notion of how things, both physical and non-physical, disintegrate with neglect. This artistic realization was both fascinating and heartbreaking for Morabito, serving as her strong drive to visually express what cannot be found in words.“I find this process interesting because it’s the same with people, and in both situations the results are often nearly imperceptible,” said Morabito. “There is beauty in imperfection and grace in experience.”
During the upcoming July 3rd event, the Rowayton office will showcase a display of Morabito’s paintings and drawings. Fine wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served in a casual setting with opportunities to talk with Morabito and discuss her work. In addition, live music performed by local Rowayton band Free Flow will provide the musical entertainment for the evening affair, which is open to the public.
“We are thrilled to welcome yet another amazing local artist during this month’s event, as well as live music for the first time ever,” said Darien agent Molly Crosland, who spearheads much of the brokerage’s artist series. “The local band performing is wonderful, and Alissa’s work is stunningly complex, encouraging all to see the world from a whole new perspective—one that finds beauty in all things.”
