Fall Foliage Tour in Litchfield County

The Fall Foliage Tour was an amazing excursion and preview of some of Litchfield Hills Sotheby’s International Realty’s most amazing estates in Litchfield County. It was more than a home tour across the county, it was like stepping through different eras of time in different countries of the world. What a fantastic experience for the company, congratulations again to all of the participating agents and a special thank you to Carolyn Fugere, our Litchfield Hills Regional Brokerage manager, who organized it all!

Our day began with a warm welcome from Carolyn Fugere, under the grand entrance of 33 Ore Hill Road. Everyone was ushered into the spacious kitchen, where we sipped champagne and toasted the start of our tour.  The view from the deck was unbelievable, and made you appreciate the natural beauty and serenity of Litchfield County. This home was built for art lovers, every corner has ornate and intricate designs and there is even a separate three-bedroom guest house with an art studio.

The next home on the tour was 88 Howland Road in South Kent, the award-winning contemporary estate on 40 acres looking over the Housatonic River Valley, built to share an authentic relationship with its setting. It is a comfortable unpretentious modern home cleverly contrasted with the design of a barn, shed and silo. The group had a fun time exploring the 40 acres of land, separate guest house and pool. The most notable interior design was the wall of the master bedroom that opened up, to render a sliding barn door, to overlook the living room.

After a mile drive of anticipation the group arrived at Cornwall Castle. We knew the home would be remarkable, but didn’t realize how majestic and true to our childhood fairytale stories it would be. It was designed by Edward C. Dean and built in the early 1920s using materials actually imported from 16th Century France, Italy and Holland. We felt that our dreams came true when we walked through this home, completely mesmerized by the architectural details executed with the old world craftsmanship. Set on 275.5 acres of land (with more available) featuring a brook, ponds, several waterfalls, open meadows and a pool, this home is the perfect private dwelling for royalty.

The Peter Eisenman’s House IV was a sharp contrast from the storybook home of Cornwall Castle, but was just as inventive and intriguing. It was created in a postmodern architectural style, which was meant to disrupt conventional living. As our Director of IT, Deryck Ali, put it “it’s like living inside a sculpture or a Lego home!” The most notable design was the upside down staircase leading to nowhere! Popping colors, glass floors, and linear shapes make this home truly unique, something fit for the MoMA!

Our last stop was Pinnacle Farm, reportedly the largest post-and-beam structure built in North America in the 20th century.  Carolyn Fugere met the group at the beginning of the driveway with a horse and buggy, which alluded to what we should expect at this home. After sufficing our amusement of watching our Marketing Director, Vin Socci and Carolyn riding a buggy to the entrance, we were able to take in the majestic beauty of the farm, state-of-the art facility and the award-winning Friesian horses. The owner’s passion for equestrian properties and love of horses is evident. These horses have the finest living quarters in the area, as well the most equipped, with over fifty separate stalls, a vet lab and a training mill. With over 140 acres of private land, the equestrian’s dream can be met here.

The day came to an end in the event room of Pinnacle Farm, where everyone gathered to recap the day over delicious catered food and drinks! View the links below for more information on these listings and for the listing agents’ contact information.
