The Best Connecticut Has to Offer

By Tyler R. Morrissey

To be called the best means you are at the top of your game in your industry. For over 20 years, Connecticut Magazine has scoured the Nutmeg State in search of Connecticut’s best places to eat, shop or take part in family entertainment with their annual “Best of Connecticut” list. We are not surprised that some of the towns honored on this year’s list are also home to some of our most spectacular listings.

Stamford

“The city that works” is just an hour or so from New York City, but there are also plenty of places to get a delicious meal on the go in Stamford. HAPA Food Truck took home the top spot in the magazine’s food truck category. American street food mixes with Asian Pacific cuisine at this eclectic and unique mobile eatery. Tacos and rice bowls share menu space with burgers, and all are made with a delicious fusion of flavors.

Branford

Located on the Connecticut shoreline is the seaside town of Branford. Incorporated in 1685, Branford was well represented on this year’s “Best of Connecticut” list. Stony Creek Brewery was selected as a reader’s choice best brewery to visit. Come for the house-brewed beer with a selection to match all tastes and stay for the atmosphere, and two huge decks overlooking the scenic Branford River. Apples Etc., which is known for its assortment of candied apples, was tapped as the best candy and chocolate shop in the state.

A sheltered zen-like courtyard, heated gunite pool, outdoor shower and shade structure allow for seasonal living and entertaining. Ridgefield

In Northern Fairfield County in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains is the town of Ridgefield. Founded 300 years ago, this classic New England town earned a mention for the second consecutive year for having the best barbeque in Connecticut.  When you think of barbecue, most don’t think of this region of the country, but Hoodoo Brown BBQ has been in a class by itself since opening their doors in 2015.
