As the end of fall ushers in the beginning of winter, there are plenty of activities and events happening around the region. Here are a few highlights to check out this November.
Harvest Dine-Around – Mamaroneck, N.Y.
On November 14th at the Hampshire Country Club in Mamaroneck, celebrate the end of the harvest season while also helping needy families during the sixth annual Harvest Dine Around. The event partners philanthropic chefs from the Club Chefs of Westchester with Part of the Solution to raise funds for New Yorkers living in poverty. Sample an array of modern cuisine, desserts, wines and beers from several country clubs, including local clubs in the Rye area. Touch-a-Truck and Chili Cook-Off – Stamford, Conn.
Get hands-on with larger-than-life vehicles during “Touch-A-Truck” at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center on Sunday, November 5th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is geared toward all ages and gives visitors information on how each truck works, what purposes they serve, as well as the chance to climb inside select vehicles. There will also be samples of some of the region’s best chili during the 10th Annual Stamford Charity Chili Cook-off. The Cook-off supports the Stamford Museum & Nature Center and the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. For more information, click here.
Darlene Love: Love for the Holidays – Peekskill, N.Y.
Known for her 1962 No. 1 American single, “He’s a Rebel,” Darlene Love will be singing Christmas tunes at the Paramount Hudson Valley on November 17th at 8 p.m. The legendary singer and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s holiday show will feature her classic song, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” Tickets to this event will cost between $30-55. A Lenox 250th Anniversary Afternoon Social – Lenox, Mass.
The Town of Lenox, Mass. continues to honor the 250th anniversary of its founding on Sunday, November 5th with an afternoon social event from 2 to 5 p.m. The social will feature a performances by the music group Berkshire Sings, and bits and pieces of Lenox History. Desserts will be served during the showing of Bruce MacGowan’s Lenox Historic Postcard Collection. The Lenox 250th Anniversary Quilt, a handmade commemorative artifact, will be on display and raffled at 5 p.m. Raffle tickets are $5 each or six for $25. Frosty Day – Armonk, N.Y.
America’s favorite fictional snowman, Frosty will be the center of attention on Sunday, November 26th in Armonk, N.Y., for the town’s annual Frosty Day. The event kicks off the holiday season and features a variety of family-friendly activities including miniature train rides around town, face painting, live entertainment and arts and crafts. There’s also a parade at 4 p.m. that passes through Village Square. Local groups and organizations will participate with floats, lights, dancing, costumes and music. Niantic Holiday Stroll – Niantic, Conn.
As an escape from holiday shopping stress at the mall this time of year, the East Lyme villages of Niantic and Flanders are hosting their annual Holiday Stroll on Saturday, November 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. This family-friendly day features horse-drawn carriage rides and professional holiday carolers along the quaint shop-lined streets of Niantic, with complimentary hot cider and cocoa. Brookfield 24th Festival of Crafts Fair – Brookfield, Conn.
The Festival of Crafts Holiday Craft show, sponsored by the Brookfield Historical Society, will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Whisconier Middle School gymnasiums located on West Whisconier Road off of Route 25 in Brookfield. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature more than 40 vendors. Due to past successes, the Festival of Crafts has grown to be one of the largest and most successful pre-holiday craft fair of its kind throughout the northeast region of Connecticut. Norfolk Library Classic Film Series – Norfolk, Conn.
Explore Hollywood’s extensive pre-digital canon of fantastic films, forgotten classics, and silent movies as the Norfolk Library classic film series continues on Thursday, November 9, at 7:00 p.m., with “It Happened One Night,” a 1934 romantic comedy starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. The film is considered one of the greatest romantic comedies in film history and a pioneering “screwball” romantic comedy.
