Each month we will highlight a few events happening in each of the communities William Pitt and Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty serves.
As the calendar flips from January to February, there are plenty of activities to take part in. Below are just a few events that you’ll absolutely love this month.
Westchester
If you have an interest in Mediterranean studies or Italian history, you might want to check out this engaging lecture series that takes you back to the splendors of Ancient Rome. Enjoy the unique opportunity to touch and interact with authentic 2,500-year-old ancient artifacts on February 2nd from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at “From the Coliseum to The Catacombs: Art and Archeology of Ancient Rome.” The event is presented by Marisa Horowitz-Jaffe, the newest presenter and educator at the Westchester Italian Cultural Center in Tuckahoe, N.Y. Horowitz-Jaffe is a professional Museum Educator who holds degrees in Classical Archaeology and Egyptology from the University of Michigan, and a Master’s Degree in Art and Museum Education. Fairfield County
Join the Norwalk Historical Society on Sunday, January 28, for a fun afternoon making Valentine’s Day cards for our nation’s veterans. The free event will take place from 1-4 p.m. and light snacks will be provided. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Cards made at the event will be sent to Congressman Jim Himes’ office and then distributed to various veterans’ organizations and hospitals in Connecticut. For more information, click here.
Litchfield County
In addition to Valentine’s Day, another well-known holiday in February is Mardi Gras. While New Orleans may put on the best Mardi Gras party of the year, there’s also some festive celebrating taking place right here in the Nutmeg State. The New England Carousel Museum will be celebrating in full New Orleans-style during its 28th annual Mardi Gras party on Saturday, February 10th, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The Big Easy evening features music and dancing in the magnificent museum ballroom, as well as a 50/50 raffle and bourbon tastings. Attendees are encouraged to wear an optional mask or come in full costume. Masks will also be available to purchase in the museum gift shop. The evening’s festivities will culminate in the crowning of a king and queen of the ball. For more information, click here.
The Connecticut Shoreline
If you enjoy standup comedy and craft beer then take a trip down to the Connecticut Shoreline on Thursday, February 8th. The Comedy Craft Beer Series is coming back to Stony Creek Brewery in Branford. Tickets to the event cost $25 per person, which includes admission to the brewery and your first pint of beer. The lineup of comedians is highlighted by Ryan Brauth, of Sirius/XM Radio and Brian Beaudoin, the winner of the first season of Last Comix Standing. Stony Creek recommends those who plan on attending arrive early to grab a beer before the show or purchase food from the food trucks outside the building. The Berkshires
While the temperatures may be cold and there may still be some snow on the ground, now is the perfect time to think about spring flowers and vegetables. Have you ever wanted to grow something from seed, but never had a green thumb? Check out the “Native Seed Starting” workshop at the Berkshire Botanical Garden on February 3rd in Stockbridge, Mass. The discussion will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will discuss the benefits of using native plants in various landscape types, native plant selections best suited for the Berkshires and various growing conditions for the region. Participants will go home with seeds to plant at their own homes. Space is limited and those wishing to attend are advised to register in advance of the workshop. For more information, click here.
