Stephen spent the first forty-two years of his professional life in the financial services industry. At Lehman Brothers he was a managing director; part of his job was managing the floors of the New York Stock Exchange and the American Stock Exchange for Lehman Brothers. After working for several other firms, Schwab and State Street Global Markets, where he ran institutional sales, Stephen started his own discount brokerage firm. His sales expertise and his management capabilities helped him raise the necessary funds to launch an independent business.
After retiring from the financial services industry, Stephen moved full time to the Berkshires and began his second career in real estate. For the past six years he has focused on residential sales working with buyers and sellers. He has sold homes worth between $100,000 and $4.6 million. One of Stephen’s interests is helping clients to envision what changes can be made to a house to make it most suitable and unique for them.
With his love of the Berkshires Stephen jumped at the opportunity to be on the Egremont Finance Committee for 5 years and to be on the Board of Realtors for Berkshire County where his role was Secretary/Treasurer. Now he continues to serve on the Investment Committee of the Board of Realtors. His interests also include being a community member of the French Park Fund which provides recreation space and equipment for the neighborhood children as well as being involved with Construct, an agency that supports less fortunate families in South County.
Stephen came to the Berkshires in 1981 while still working in New York. He bought his first house in 1987; in the intervening 30 years Stephen bought and sold several homes and currently lives full time in South Egremont with his wife Penny and their Bernese Mountain dog, Sophie. Together they have 5 children and 11 grandchildren. His passion for golf occupies his free time at both Wyantenuck and Stockbridge Golf Clubs.
