Deep River

Once known as the Queen of the Valley, Deep River is defined by its strong sense of community and pride in its history and natural environment.

The community of Deep River, which is part of the ‘Tri-town Area’ made up of Deep River, Chester and Essex, enjoys a central location in Middlesex County in one of the state’s most popular vacation regions. The town, with a population of approximately 4,600 residents, encompasses 14.2 square miles. An active land trust oversees preservation and protection of about 100 acres of land, and Deep River’s charming, renovated downtown area consists of myriad shops and eateries. The town is perhaps best known for hosting each July what town officials consider to be the oldest and largest gathering of fife and drum corps in the world, the Deep River Ancient Muster.
