The town of Livingston in the southwest portion of beautiful Columbia County, N.Y., comprises several charming hamlets and communities within its 39 square miles. The town offers its 3,628 residents a low population density of 93 people per square miles, acres of unspoiled beauty, opportunities for passive recreation and community services for all ages.

Residents take great pride in Livingston’s history, which comes to life in a renovated barn behind town hall known as the History Barn. Visitors take delight in an oral history of the town, which was organized in 1788 by its namesake, Robert Livingston. The history center displays many artifacts from days gone by.

There are myriad opportunities for passive recreation at the town park, which is protected and maintained by the nonprofit, all-volunteer group, The Friends of North Twin Lake Park. Residents enjoy access to a small fishing dock, a gated sandy beach area, a pavilion, picnic tables and plenty of open space.

Route 9 is the main highway which passes through town. Key communities and locations in town include Bells Pond in its northeast corner, as well as the charming hamlets of Blue Stores, Glencoe Mills, Burden, Linlithgo, Linlithgo Mills and the hamlet of Livingston.
