Hudson

Named one of the 12 best places to live in the Hudson Valley, the town of Hudson boasts splendid architecture, breathtaking scenery, award-winning restaurants and a vibrant cultural scene.

Hudson, Columbia County’s seat, is set on the banks of the Hudson River. It is steeped in history dating back into the 18th century when it was a busy center for whaling and international trade. Over the centuries it saw some decline but realized a renaissance in the 1980’s when a group of antiques dealers and artists rediscovered its charm and now Hudson boasts a vibrant antiques, art, and music scene. There are over 50 antiques shops, 18 art galleries, 3 museums, including the Fireman’s Association of the State of New York Museum of Firefighting. The annual Hudson Music Festival is the largest free music festival in New York. Basilica Hudson opened in 2010 as a performance and event venue to showcase Hudson Valley performing arts. It supports the creation, production and presentation of all sorts of arts and culture. Historic buildings (over 300) have been restored and Hudson has been called the “finest dictionary of American Architecture in New York State”. Particularly notable are the Federal, Victorian and Queen Anne buildings. Award winning restaurants, great shopping and easy to reach. On Amtrak it is only 2 hours from Manhattan; 3 hours from Boston.
