Around the Region: December 2018

Each month we will highlight a few events happening in each of the communities William Pitt and Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty serves.

As the calendar flips from November to December, there are plenty of activities to take part in. Below are just a few events to enjoy as we enter the final month of 2018 and the height of the holiday season.

Westchester County

Their recognizable music is still played today 50 years after The Beatles changed the American music scene forever. At the Larchmont Public Library on December 2nd from 4-5:30 p.m. musician and professor Barry Wiesenfeld will give a talk that explores how the band grew so quickly in the United States through their musical innovations and depth of their hit songs’ lyrics. Wiesenfeld is a freelance musician, a published author and a member of the music faculty at SUNY and Ramapo College. Refreshments will be served at 3:30 p.m. prior to the lecture. Fairfield County

Across the Northeast small towns and cities alike will host their annual holiday strolls. The Judy Mitchell Group of the firm’s Fairfield – Southport office will be a sponsor of the annual “Fairfield Shop & Stroll.” From 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018, The Judy Mitchell Group will provide free cups of hot cocoa on the Sherman Green. The Holiday Shop and Stroll is a festive evening featuring discounts at many of the local shops and restaurants in downtown Fairfield. Participating businesses include Island Outfitters, SoundRunner, Beehive, Henry C. Reid & Sons Jewelers and more. There will also be entertainment, as well as an ice sculpting demonstration and complimentary refreshments. Litchfield County

Many miles from the original town of Bethlehem is Bethlehem, Conn., which is hosting its annual Christmas Town Festival on December 7-8. All of the buildings and churches around the town green will be participating in this year’s festival. On Dec. 7 the event will kick off with the lighting of the town’s 75-foot Christmas tree, featuring an appearance by Santa and a surprise celebrity guest. There will also be face painting and a free crafts workshop for children and their parents. Saturday’s portion of the festival will feature a 5K road race and multiple food vendors to cap off the day. For more information, click here.

Greater Hartford

A Hartford tradition is back for its 30th year. On Monday, December 31st from 2 p.m. until midnight, thousands of people will pack Bushnell Park to welcome in 2019 in grand fashion. First Night includes two spectacular fireworks shows at 6 p.m. and midnight, as well as countless professional musicians, artists and exhibits that cater to all ages. Connecticut Shoreline

New Haven’s historic downtown is one of the most festive places to be during the holiday season. Shoppers will pack The Shops at Yale, which is offering holiday themed events throughout the entire month. Some of the highlights include storytelling with Santa at Willoughby’s Coffee & Tea on December 13th, Yuletide carolers on Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. in the Broadway District and ice carving demonstrations every weekend. Free four-hour parking will be offered with the same day purchase of $30 or more from any of the retailers at The Shops at Yale. For more information, click here.

Berkshires

On December 8th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Lenox Chamber of Commerce will host “Making Spirits Bright,” which includes a Holiday Stroll & House Tours. Local merchants and restaurants will be open to patrons looking to get into the holiday spirit and enjoy the town’s festive streets. Shops will also be wrapping gifts as you select the perfect item for everyone on your holiday shopping list. Eight venues that include the Birchwood Inn, Brook Farm Inn, Garden Gables Inn, Church on the Hill, Kemble Inn, Rookwood Inn, The Summer White House Inn and Ventfort Hall Gilded Age Mansion will all have their doors open and will be decked out in seasonal décor.
