At Home with Sotheby’s Auction House

If you love art and wonderfully designed homes, then you’re in luck! This coming April, Sotheby’s Auction House is proud to present its third annual Designer Showhouse and Auction. The week-long exhibition, entitled At Home, will display 12 rooms, each decorated by expert designers to display their own style and perspective. Shelly Morris of interior design firm Shelley Morris Interiors is one of the featured designers, using her fine talent and keen eye to design the showhouse dining room. Based out of Fairfield County, Conn., Morris has completed a wide range of projects in the area, including her own home at 440 Wahackme Road, which is now for sale and listed with New Canaan agent Diane Jenkins for $3,640,000.

Designers from the West Coast and the Tri-State area will be participating in this special Sotheby’s event, which encompasses the use of various works of art from furniture and ceramics to silver, photographs, prints and fine art. Encouraged to think outside of the box, designers included in the showhouse strategically juxtapose classic tradition with modern, chic styles to embody what it means to live among modern-day luxury. Architectural Digest, a gracious supporter of the event, provides a sneak peek of some anticipated designs, including a sketch of the charming antique touches incorporated throughout Morris’s planned dining room masterpiece. Imagine achieving all this while creating an atmosphere that has every comfort and familiar feeling of being right At Home—that’s the ultimate goal of this exciting Sotheby’s exhibition.

Originally a 1950s bungalow, the New Canaan Colonial now boasts a layered, clean look with clear lines and a neutral palette. Its interior includes many tactile finishes as well as quality features such as Shaker-style recessed doors, white plank character oak floors, shiplap millwork, floor to ceiling windows and French doors. Its location, surrounded by a lovely blue stone terrace, luxurious pool area, tennis and bocce courts and two stunningly landscaped acres of land, adds to this glorious residential appeal, which is often described as a tranquil Zen retreat.
