Members of our Larchmont team geared up this past weekend to walk in honor of the victims of drunk driving and all who are affected by the tragic reality of this deplorably common crime. The Lower Hudson Valley “Walk Like MADD” fundraising event, which our firm proudly helped to sponsor, was held at Rye Playland in Rye, N.Y. The day’s festivities were organized in loving memory of Westchester County resident and drunk driving victim Andy Sears and his family. In addition to serving as sponsor, our company also formed a walking team. As usual, the results proved to be Sotheby’s-strong, and exceeded the team’s original fundraising goal, gathering a total of over $7,000 for the worthy cause.
Walk Like MADD is an annual fundraising event intended to spread awareness across the nation about the fatal consequences of drunk driving. Over 60 cities in America hosted this year’s event, in which thousands of participants came together in solidarity to walk for a purpose—to support victims, remember those lost and eliminate drunk driving from our roadways. The Lower Hudson Valley chapter included a total of 216 registered walkers, raising more than $46,700 with donations still steadily flowing in. All funds raised support MADD school programs for parent and youth organizations, as well as provide support to the victims of drunk driving.
“The Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty team was proud to be a sponsor of this wonderful event, which unfortunately hits close to home for so many individuals,” said Carolyn Fugere, manager of our firm’s Larchmont brokerage. “We walked to honor the Sears family and all other victims of the senselessness of drunk driving. I thank all participants and donors for their continued support in helping us to exceed our team goal.”
MADD operates in more than 600 communities across the country and has over 1,400 trained victim advocates on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to support victims with both comfort and reliable legal assistance. The organization has been saving lives and serving victims of drunk driving for over 35 years.
